Lee Buchholz, 57, of Glen Ellyn, a specialist in the use of reinforced steel bars in the construction industry, died of complications from a heart attack Friday, Feb. 23, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Mr. Buchholz worked in the engineering department for Ambassador Steel Co. in Burr Ridge and previously worked for Bethlehem Steel Co. “He worked in the steel industry since age 18,” said his wife, Karen. “Lee was a master handyman, the guy neighbors and friends turned to when they needed a tool or help with a project.” Born in Oconomowoc, Wis. Mr. Buchholz coached girls softball in Glen Ellyn for nearly a decade and was known for his interest in high-performance American cars. “Lee was a lover of muscle cars and Corvettes,” his wife said. Mr. Buchholz, a member of the Fox Valley Corvette Club, was a frequent participant at weekend cars shows in numerous DuPage County communities. Along with golf, Mr. Buchholz enjoyed bicycling with his family along many trails that crisscross DuPage County. “He was a wonderful person who devoted his life to his only child. Work was important to him, but family was more important,” his wife said. Survivors also include a daughter, Jennifer, and a brother, Ron. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Thursday in Leonard Memorial Home Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn.
