Prune branches with flower buds from forsythia, crab apple, cherry and ornamental pear trees and bring them inside for forcing, says Debi Phillips, landscape designer at Scentimental Gardens in St. Charles. Choose long branches and cut stem bases on an angle. Smash the base with a hammer to aid water absorption. Place in water, changing it every few days. Branches should bloom in about two weeks.
