All that’s left of the old stomping ground is a pile of twisted steel and broken concrete, ready to become a parking lot for the new Miller Park. But the Milwaukee Braves’ Historical Association is seeking a permanent memorial for the site of the former County Stadium.

“I like the idea of a memorial out there,” said Hall of Fame pitcher Warren Spahn, who was guest of honor at an association fundraiser Thursday night. “I don’t want to see the old park in rubble, but I think I’ll go [to Miller Park].”

ESPN has been fined $30,000 by the Connecticut State Ethics Commission for exceeding the $50 gift limit for public officials with a party that drew 400 people during last year’s Republican National Convention at a Philadelphia restaurant.

ESPN’s official report to the state, though, listed 205 invited people as attending the event. By dividing the $20,000 cost for the party by 205, the official “value” of the event came to nearly twice the annual limit for meals paid for by a company with a registered lobbyist.

An ESPN spokesman apologized for the “breakdown in internal communications and controls.”
