I’m writing in response to “Why is America so afraid of its children?” (Commentary, April 2), by Salim Muwakkil. I strongly agree with Muwakkil’s views. Being an 18-year-old, I find it ridiculous that kids, ranging in age from 11 to 17, can be tried as adults. I still see myself as a kid and make mistakes.
But I believe we should educate kids about the responsibilities that adults must take on. Actions precede consequences that children cannot understand.
