In a May 10 Voice of the people, George Wuerch, mayor of Anchorage, states that Alaskans are in favor of oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. What Mayor Wuerch neglected to say might be an influencing factor in their decision to look favorably on drilling is the “oil money,” almost $1,000 annually, that every citizen over the age of 1 receives simply because he or she is a citizen of our 49th state. Could this be translated as “more drilling, more money”?
