The Rush nearly erased a late 15-point deficit, but quarterback Billy Dicken was stopped on the 1-yard line as time expired, allowing the host Los Angeles Avengers to escape with a 55-47 Arena Football League victory Saturday night.
The Avengers (5-6) won for the fifth time in six games.
Meanwhile, the Rush (5-6) lost its third consecutive game.
“We certainly haven’t made it easy on ourselves,” said Rush coach Mike Hohensee. “But we have three big games left and I believe our team will be up for that challenge.”
The Rush travels to Grand Rapids on Saturday before hosting Milwaukee and then defending Arena Bowl champion Orlando.
Dameon Porter shone brightly for the Rush, intercepting two passes to increase his AFL-leading total to 11.
– Jonathan Quinn threw three touchdown passes to lead the Berlin Thunder to a 24-17 upset of the Barcelona Dragons in NFL Europe’s World Bowl in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The game drew 32,166 fans.
