CD you acquired most recently: I got a compilation of ’50s and ’60s music on a CD, because I do a ’50s and ’60s show. And ’70s. It’s a compilation of rhythm and blues and doo-wop groups, soul singers.
Last movie you saw: On DVD I saw “The Original Kings of Comedy.” These black comedians — Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac — put on a performance you won’t forget.
Book you are reading: “Encyclopedia of Rhythm & Blues and Doo-Wop Vocal Groups” by Mitch Rosalsky.
Performance that altered your life: “The Chocolate Soldier,” an operetta. In the 1940s, there were these operettas every week at the Tribune Tower, in a theater for live radio. I went down there and the announcer came on to warm up. I was stunned that this guy had a great voice. At that moment I decided I would be a radio announcer.
