Finally, one of your paper’s columnists gets it (“Get ready for the 15-year flight delay,” News, July 8)! As bad as flight delays and cancellations have been at O’Hare, the situation is going to get progressively worse–not better–over the next 15 years if O’Hare is reconfigured and a new airport (Peotone) isn’t built. Why spend billions of dollars to put a Band-Aid solution on an existing airfield when it’s clear that a new airport is needed.
Surely an airport can be built at Peotone in the same time frame and for no more dollars than the proposed O’Hare expansion–with the added benefit of causing no additional flight disruptions at O’Hare. The only one standing in the way of this sane solution is Mayor Richard Daley and his lackeys.
