Amtrak is extending the Kentucky Cardinal line, which originates in Chicago, to Louisville. The line, which started operating in December 1999, currently ends in Jeffersonville, Ind., just across the Ohio River from Louisville. As part of the $530,000 project, Louisville’s downtown Union Station will be refurbished. Louisville will pay $300,000 for the project, with Amtrak contributing $200,000 and the Great American Station Foundation of Las Vegas, N.M., will chip in $30,000.
