– Pontiac is recalling 800 1999 Grand Prix sedans for faulty air bags. A driver was injured when an air bag ruptured during deployment, sending a 2-inch fragment and hot gases into the driver’s face. GM says the recall, affecting vehicles made in September 1998, covers all vehicles that potentially have the same defect, though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continues to investigate 1998-2001 Grand Prix and Pontiac Montana minivan models. The government investigation affects 635,965 vehicles.
– Warn Industries Inc. is recalling 50,000 A2000 winch kits for all-terrain vehicles because a faulty solenoid can start a fire. Warn, of Clackamas, Ore., has recevied nine reports of fires and one report of a person suffering smoke inhalation. The recall applies to A2000 kits with solenoids manufactures by White-Rodgers, sold in catalogs from November 2000 through May 2001, not with Camdec solenoids used before the White-Rodgers version.
