Charles O. Klein, 86, of Barrington, a retired machine parts buyer, died of heart failure Monday, Aug. 6, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Born and raised in Chicago, he worked a variety of jobs before joining Vapor Corp. in Niles in 1945. At Vapor, a transportation manufacturing company, Mr. Klein was responsible for ordering machine parts and scheduling production. He retired in 1977. “He was a `Here’s the shirt off my back’ kind of guy,” said his son, Larry. Since the 1970s, Mr. Klein had frequently driven elderly members of St. Anne’s parish in Barrington to doctor’s appointments. He also had sung in the church choir since the 1970s and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Klein is also survived by his wife, Marie; two daughters, Anne Schank and Frances; and three grandchildren. A mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela St., Barrington.
