The Aug. 7 Cubs game, despite a wonderfully bizarre and exciting finish, was a disgrace to the City of Chicago, the Cubs and Major League Baseball. During the seventh-inning stretch, former Bears defensive tackle and pro wrestler Steve “Mongo” McMichael was guest conductor, and he verbally taunted the home-plate umpire, obviously referring to a blown call made earlier in the game.

It is one thing for the fans to taunt umpires, and even broadcasters, but for a guest of the Cubs and WGN to publicly embarrass and disrespect a game official like that is simply unacceptable.

I can only hope that Mr. McMichael is never invited back to sing, and that stricter guidelines are laid out for future conductors.
