Now that Gov. George Ryan has decided to give up running for re-election, can we give up the non-existent Peotone regional airport and start concentrating on an airport that does exist, like Gary/Chicago Regional?

If Gary was expanded into a decent-size airport before construction started at O’Hare, perhaps:

– The construction of the newly configured runways at O’Hare would not cause as many nationwide delays for as long as projected.

– There might not be a need for six parallel runways at O’Hare, maybe only 4.

– All the people living south and east of the Loop would have a choice of airports to use.

– Illinois wouldn’t lose more farmland.
