The City of Chicago and the coordinators of the Air & Water Show owe a huge apology to the musicians of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra; the conductor, Carlos Kalmar; the four soloists; the Grant Park Chorus; and the hundreds of people in the audience on Aug. 18 for the final concert of the season. How difficult it must have been for these world-class artists to concentrate.

At about 7:15 p.m. several very loud planes appeared over the lake and Grant Park. The concert began at 7:30. The planes’ maneuvers intermittently drowned out the concert.

Surely the “city that works” could do a better job of coordinating activities. I urge that in the future some attention be given to these details so that all may enjoy the events they choose to attend.
