Whenever a lottery jackpot tops $100 million, stores and gas stations that sell tickets develop massive lines (“Powerball zeal turns to bedlam at border,” Page 1, Aug. 25). From the articles I have read, it appears that the disruption caused to these businesses outweighs the nickel or so made for each ticket.
Lottery officials should consider doubling or tripling the fee paid these merchants along state borders for the trouble they go through.
