Salim Muwakkil asks what we will say when future generations ask how we could support the state of Israel.
Our answer will be a simple one.
We support Israel because it is the only democracy in a region of dictatorships. It is the only country in the Middle East where Arabs have a free press and the right to cast a vote in an election whose outcome is not predetermined.
We support Israel because despite all of the vilification heaped upon it (of which Mr. Muwakkil’s piece is only the most recent example) it continues to be a country looking for a partner with whom it can make peace.
We are proud to support such a courageous country. Our children will be proud of our support as well.
