Colorado Avalanche backup goalie David Aebischer returned to Switzerland on Friday to introduce family and friends to the new love of his life: the Stanley Cup.
It’s the first time the trophy has been in Switzerland. Each player on the NHL championship team is given 24 hours to spend with the Cup.
Strapped into a convertible and followed by a police escort, the trophy was paraded in Aebischer’s hometown of Fribourg to the delight of hundreds.
After a private party, Aebischer planned to drink champagne from the Cup with his girlfriend.
So whom does Aebischer love more, the Cup or his girlfriend?
“Actually, the question already came up,” he said. “I didn’t answer.”
