Karl G. Schmidt, 81, of Phoenix, at Reno, NV, died August 24, 2001. Born April 12, 1920 in Chaska, MN to Alma, nee Kohn and Rev. Otto H. Schmidt; husband of Helen Sachtleben Schmidt and the late Carolyn, nee Kuhlmann; father of Susan Kurth (Gerald), Nanette Rankin (John), Rebecca McBroom, Andrew, Julia Schlichting (Glenn), David (Kimberly), James (Kristen), Lisa McGavern (Charles) and stepfather of Rev. Carl R. Sachtleben (Ann), Paul Sachtleben (Andrea), John Sachtleben (Gail), Philip Sachtleben (Mary) and Anita Reinkensmeyer (Marcus); grandfather of 29; and greatgrandfather of three; brother of Louise Funck and twin of Rev. Gerhardt K. Schmidt and the late Winifred George and Esther Dooling. Karl, a principal in Lutheran schools for 47 years, served at St. John’s Lutheran School, Beardstown, IL, Zion Lutheran School, Beecher, IL, Zion Lutheran School Winston Avenue, Chicago, Immanuel Lutheran School, Des Plaines, IL, and retired from St. Peter Lutheran School, Schaumburg, IL in 1990. Funeral services were held in Phoenix. A Celebration Service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 E. Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg, IL, Saturday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Schaumburg.
