Charles Kelner, 82, a retired building repairman and janitor, died of heart failure Sunday, Sept. 2, in his Elk Grove Village home. Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Kelner repaired elevators and heating and air-conditioning units in buildings in Chicago’s Loop for more than 20 years. He also worked as a janitor. “He loved fixing things and was very good at what he did,” said his wife, Regina. Mr. Kelner retired in 1986. He and his family lived on Chicago’s Northwest Side until 1998, when he and his wife moved to Elk Grove Village. Mr. Kelner is also survived by a son, Chester; a daughter, Anna Dereszkiewicz; a brother, Edward Thomas; and two grandchildren. A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church, 5352 W. Belden Ave., Chicago.
