The Waukegan School District 60 board has voted to participate in a pilot study to evaluate a student tracking system that uses the Internet to access records.

The district will start to use the PORT/EP system this year to track students with special needs who are routinely referred to multiple specialists.

The program allows teachers, social workers, psychologists, administrators and parents to have access to the same set of student records, which are updated each time a student meets with any of the involved parties, eliminating the need for multiple sets of records.

“This would help us to work smarter,” said Myron Dagley, District 60’s deputy superintendent for special education.
