Mona M. McGrath, 71, passed away on Monday, Sept. 3, 2001. Mrs. McGrath was a native of Chicago, IL where she graduated from St. Xavier College. She was a Newport News resident since 1979. Mrs. McGrath was a liturgical and social minister and was a member of St. Mary’s Guild at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. She was a Docent at the Ft. Monroe Casemate Museum and was a member of the Virginia Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Raymond E. McGrath. She is survived by her children, Raymond G. McGrath and his wife, Patricia Murer, Therese M. McGrath, Margaret M. Laubach and her husband, Bruce, Kathleen M. McGrath, John McGrath and his wife, Karen, Janet E. McGrath and Mark G. McGrath; and six grandchildren, Robert and Monica Laubach, Madeline McGrath, Matthew and Maria Andrea McGrath and Victoria McGrath. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at the church at 7:30 p.m., conducted by Father Charles Breindel. Burial will take place on Friday, Sept., 7, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park. Please enter at the Nettles Drive Gate. The family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church Outreach Program/Food Pantry, 100 Harpersville Rd., Newport News, VA 23601.
