Robert Bauer, 38, manager of a water treatment plant in Danville, died Friday, Aug. 31, in Provena United Samaritan Medical Center Logan Campus Hospital in Danville of an aortic aneurysm. Mr. Bauer grew up in Evanston and graduated from Evanston Township High School. He went on to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. At SIU, he met his future wife, Mary A. Crabb. They moved to Torrington, Conn., after college, where he got a job at a water treatment plant. They moved to Danville in 1999 after he was offered a job with Consumers Illinois Water Co. Mr. Bauer enjoyed lending a hand with Habitat for Humanity or sailing on the Atlantic as much as bowling and hunting. Recently, he earned his certification to work as a substitute teacher and he also volunteered with several community organizations. “He felt he was very blessed and ought to give back to his community as much as he received,” his wife said. Mr. Bauer was also an avid model railroader and served as secretary of the Danville chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. Other survivors include three daughters, Laura, Jennifer and Kimberly ; his parents, Peter and Lydia ; and a brother, Richard . Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church.
