It looks as though sickness and old age have done what the voters of North and South Carolina have failed to do–get Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond out of the Senate. To this I say, “good riddance.”
They have both acted in such a manner over the years as to be nothing short of a disgrace to the Senate and to this country. There is no way of knowing just who will take their places, but I think that I am safe in saying that they will be a big improvement over both Helms and Thurmond.
The people of North and South Carolina have been very foolish to continue to elect them to the Senate time after time for so long, but even those fools deserve better than these two.
