Joan Olivia Brown, 49, died in her home on Thursday, Aug. 30. She was the loving mother of Carly Nicole Brown. Joan worked for the Department of Children and Family Services as a child protection investigator. She is also survived by her father, Oscar Brown Jr.; brother, Napoleon Brown; sisters, Donna Kane, Iantha Casen, Maggie Brown Blakey and Africa Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A memorial will be held at Hartzell Memorial United Methodist Church, 3330 King Drive. The Service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6. Visitation begins at 6 p.m. and Services begin at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to daughter, Carly Brown, to assist with her education.
