Prime Minister Jean Chretien played the pro-am round of the Canadian Open in Montreal with defending champion Tiger Woods. He finished with a par 4 on the 18th hole that Woods called Chretien’s highlight.

“There was enormous pressure,” Chretien said Wednesday. “It was harder than in the House of Commons.”

Woods found a common bond with Chretien.

“No matter where you come from, what status you are . . . you just enjoy playing the game,” Woods said.

This wasn’t the first time Woods played with a government leader. He said he has been paired with the sultan of Malaysia, the Philippines president and former President George Bush.

No play on holy day

Dodgers outfielder Shawn Green plans to sit out what could be a crucial game against the Giants on Sept. 26 in observance of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur.

“It’s something I feel that’s an important thing to do as a representative of the Jewish community and as far as my being a role model in sports for Jewish kids, to basically say that baseball or anything isn’t bigger than your religion and your roots,” Green said.

Say what?

`I hate it. It makes me wonder what I’ve done to make them hate me so much.’
