John Power Krane II, 62, died suddenly at his residence in Schaumburg, IL on Sept. 3, 2001. He was born on July 19, 1939 in Fairfield, Iowa to Arnold Krane and Ruth Power, the fourth of six chilldren. He attended Parsons College on a National Science Foundation scholarship, majoring in German and Mathematics. After beginning a management career with John Morrell in 1961, a switch to Dole Banana Company moved him to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he met his wife-to-be, Aileen Yu, in 1966. John and Aileen were married two years later on March 23. Following the birth of their first child, John Jr., he moved his family back to Arlington Heights, IL, resuming his employment with John Morrell. Two more children were born in Arlington Heights, Douglas in 1970 and Robert in 1972. His promotion to Director of MIS moved the Krane family to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1975. During this happy period, John enjoyed golfing at the Westward Ho Country Club, sending his first child to USD, and a promotion to Vice President of MIS. Shortly after suffering the loss of their youngest son, Robert, in 1990, the Kranes moved back to Illinois, to Schaumburg, and his semi-retirement. He kept himself occupied with work at a local Amoco station, then later at the White Hen Pantry on Schaumburg Rd. By coincidence, the eldest son’s career arc placed him at nearby Fermilab. Larger distances separated John from his siblings with Scott in Russellville, AK, Robert in Phoenix, Randi in Mequon, WI, Linda in Minneapolis, and Sigmund in San Francisco. He will be missed. Visitation is on Friday, September 7, from 9 to 1 p.m., followed by a brief service at Michaels Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Condolences may be sent care of Michaels Funeral Home, 800 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg, IL 60193
