I am a resident of the Peotone area.

Three years ago, we purchased more than 5 acres of land in the country and spent a year of our life building our beautiful new home.

We literally did all the work ourselves–everything from the concrete to the shingles. We both have challenging careers and long hours, so the sacrifices we made to accomplish this goal were tremendous.

I chose to move to this area because of the rural atmosphere.

We treasure the peacefulness, the country roads, the wildlife, the farmland, everything that attracts people like ourselves to this way of living.

The mere thought of this all being destroyed because of politicians pushing to build an airport in our rural community is infuriating.

I realize that the flight delays at O’Hare International Airport are a major concern. But is destroying rich farmland and a rural community truly the answer to these problems?

There are other options.

What about the impact on Peotone-area residents?

Why does it seem that our voices are not being heard?

The residents near O’Hare are complaining about the noise and traffic congestion in their area.

Didn’t they choose to live near an airport?

If it was peace and quiet that they wanted, they should not have moved to an area that has jets flying overhead 24-7!

I wanted to live in a peaceful, rural community.

That is why I chose to live in Peotone and not Bensenville.

I was at an anti-airport rally in Peotone this past May. The mayor of Gary spoke to us about the benefits of using the Gary/Chicago Airport as an alternative. He brought up several valid points that seem to make a great deal of sense:

– The Gary airport already exists.

– The town of Gary needs the economic boost.

– The runway at Gary is already longer than that at Midway Airport.

– The Gary airport has more land than LaGuardia in New York City.

– Expressways and trains to Chicago from Gary already exist.
