Ruth Levin, 82, who worked for 21 years as a Probate Court clerk and was affectionately known as the “Cookie Lady” because of her penchant for baking cookies and giving them away, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, in her Morton Grove home. Born on the West Side of Chicago, she lived most of her life in the city. Mrs. Levin met her husband, Harry, at a dance and the two married in 1945. She began work as a court clerk in 1979 at the Daley Center. Though her outgoing personality made her well known among the lawyers, Mrs. Levin was best known as a baker. “Once you met her you were on the cookie list,” said her daughter, Janet Waxman. “You got a bag of cookies. She didn’t even eat the cookies, but she liked to watch people eat her cookies and have them tell her how delicious they were.” Mrs. Levin was also a longtime member of Asthmatic Children’s Aid of Cook County. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Levin is survived by a son, Leonard, and two grandchildren. Services have been held.
