Want a sweet, crunchy treat for your lunchbox? Then get shaking. You literally toss this yummy recipe, called Puppy Chow, in a paper bag. It takes less than a half hour to make, and you don’t need to turn on an oven. The recipe makes gobs, so if you want, take a big bag to school and or mix some up for a sleepover. Once your friends start nibbling, they’ll howl for more.
To get started, gather the ingredients, a large microwave-safe bowl and a large brown paper bag. You’ll need:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 (17.5 ounce) box of crispy corn and rice cereal (such as Chex)
1 pound confectioners’ sugar
Put the butter, peanut butter and chocolate into a bowl. Microwave the ingredients on high for 1 1/2 minutes, then stir. If the mixture is still lumpy, microwave it again for another minute and stir. Continue to do this until the mixture is smooth. (If you don’t have a microwave, grab a large saucepan and melt the ingredients on the stovetop over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until smooth.)
Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss until it’s well-coated.
Place the coated cereal in a large paper sack, pour in the confectioners’ sugar, fold down the top of the bag and shake to coat.
Get chowing! Store the remaining chow in an airtight container or seal it in a plastic bag.
