William E. Holleran, 75, of Naperville, a retired attorney, died Sunday, Sept. 2, in DuPage County Convalescent Center, Wheaton. Born in Fairmont, W. Va., Mr. Holleran had been a resident of Naperville since 1971. He joined Amoco in 1958 and eventually became manager of corporate properties for the company. He retired in 1985. Mr. Holleran served in the Army during both World War II and the Korean War. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social studies from Ohio State University. At the college, he was a member of the debate team, which won a Big 10 tournament and then went on to participate in the first national collegiate debate tournament, according to his family. “My father was always one to enjoy a good argument,” said his son, Steve. “He was persuasive and definitely had a way with words.” He later received a law degree from Wayne State University in Michigan. He was also a member of the Michigan Bar Association and was a former vice president of NACORE, a national commercial real estate association. An active volunteer with the Boy Scouts while his sons were growing up, Mr. Holleran often accompanied his sons on weeklong camping trips with their troops. “He was always there for us when we were kids,” said his son. Other survivors include his wife, Joanne; three other sons, Gary, Rick, and Tom; and two grandsons. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren St., Naperville.
