The Lake County Health Department, along with the Barrington Area Council on Aging, will offer a six-week course for caregivers of family members with Alzheimer’s disease.

“Taking Care of You … Powerful Tools for Caregiving” is designed for non-professional family caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease or who have suffered a stroke, said Sharon Roberts, co-facilitator of the program and gerontologist for the Health Department.

The course will address how to cope with guilt, anger and depression; set goals; and solve problems related to the situation. The program will help caregivers develop stronger skills when making tough decisions and help them handle different emotional situations, Roberts said.

“Caregivers … will provide better care for themselves as well as the person being cared for,” Roberts said.

The class will meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 17 in ExtraCare, Adult Day Program at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 33428 N. Sears Blvd., Wildwood. The fee is $15. Call 847-360-6733.
