Theodore Utchen’s Sept. 1 letter to the editor in which he criticizes Elizabeth Dole’s moving to North Carolina for the “sole purpose” of running for senator, and wonders why she isn’t getting the same attention as another well-known senator from the state of New York, is incorrect.
The reason Elizabeth Dole is not getting a lot of criticism is that she is not a carpetbagger in the sense that Hillary Clinton is. Mrs. Clinton never lived in New York and didn’t have any familiarity with New York prior to moving there to run for the Senate.
Elizabeth Dole was born and raised in North Carolina and went to college there. She is a daughter of North Carolina and cares deeply for her native state. One certainly cannot say the same thing about our esteemed senator from New York, where she justifiably received criticism for her decision to run in a state she didn’t know anything about.
