A massive and cleverly planned attack on the United States has been carried out. I could not help but recall when, as a teenager, I first learned at a local grocery store of the attack that was going on at Pearl Harbor almost 60 years ago.
Viewing the billowing smoke from the Trade Center towers reminded me of films we later viewed of the stricken battleships, particularly the Arizona. Today’s attack on U.S. soil is even more dastardly because the targets in New York were civilians.
Although the death toll is not known at this moment, it most likely will far exceed that in the Hawaii raid by Japan in l941, which at least had military objectives.
We must allow our leaders full range of all means necessary to identify and to bring the culprits to justice. And woe to countries that shelter them.
This will mean that we as Americans will find our cherished freedoms curtailed. But, folks, we are now at WAR!
