The Barrington Village Board is considering working with a building owner to renovate the Golden Triangle property.

Part of the plan could include creating an arts center in an existing building, building a village green, redeveloping the Dairy Queen site with a new ice cream store and restaurant and leaving a Volvo dealership untouched.

The board met Monday to consider establishing a partnership with property owner O. Renard Goltra of Lake Forest for the 9.6-acre site, which is bordered by the Union Pacific Railroad, Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railroad and Hough Street.

The preliminary plan shows development beginning north of the Golden Triangle property and placing the village green on the southern portion of the property. If the car dealership decided to move, the southern end of the property would be developed with stores, restaurants and offices.

The Village Board has authority to condemn about 5 acres of the land belonging to Goltra but decided recently to negotiate with him.
