The Bensenville Village Board is considering a five-year extension to the village’s contract with Browning-Ferris Industries that would cut down the number of days garbage trucks operate in the village without reducing the number of trash pickups.

The proposed pact would divide the village into three pickup zones instead of the current five. Trucks would still serve each zone once a week. Homeowners would be charged the current rate of $17.25 per month until October 2002, when the rate would go up by 5 percent annually for the next four years.

BFI also would issue each household a 90-gallon blue and black wheeled garbage can to use.
