The single most effective and least costly measure airlines could take to prevent hijackings would be to install steel doors between the cockpit and the cabin, and to keep the doors locked from engine start to shutdown.

The excuse that doors must be easily opened in case the pilot is incapacitated makes little sense.

All commercial jets must have at least two pilots in the cockpit.
