The last time we were in England, after we boarded a plane at Heathrow Airport to come home, the plane remained in the boarding area a long time.

When we asked why, we were told that a man had checked his luggage but had not boarded.

The captain would not take off until the man’s luggage was removed. Practically the whole luggage section was emptied before that luggage was found and removed. Not one person complained about the delay.

It is this attitude toward security that we need to adopt here.

It would not have stopped the recent terrorists, it seems, but passenger patience of the kind we saw is a good beginning.
