The horrific, tragic events of the past week cry out for all Americans to step forward to help our fellow citizens. Americans are by nature a giving people–even during what are difficult economic times for many.
But no matter how bad we may think our own lot is, we all know that there are many more suffering Americans in New York City. Many of us have recently received rebates on our income tax. As much as our economy needs a boost from the spending of these rebates, an equally compelling use of these tax refunds would be to help the thousands affected by this tragedy.
The need is there and it is great. The American spirit is there to help our fellow citizens. The resource is there–the government just gave it to us.
