The U.S. has shown so much courage and compassion during the past week, I am so proud of this country. But the weeks and months to come will be even harder on us.
Speaking from personal experience with loss (our youngest died in 1999), the worst is yet to come as far as emotional stress.
Now everyone is in a state of shock and denial; in the next months, everyone will begin to feel a gamut of emotions. We will all deal with this differently. I fervently hope everyone finds a healthy way to deal with their grief.
Talking, writing your feelings down, finding some joy without guilt (going to a movie, laughing, etc.), keeping busy–these are ways to relieve the stress. Do not feel guilty when you go on with your life. We would be doing the victims an injustice by letting this tragedy keep us from being our best.
