Morris Braun, 90, a former president and chief executive of W. Braun Co. and an Uptown neighborhood activist, died Sunday, Sept. 16, in his Lakeview home.
In 1978, Mr. Braun was named CEO of the bottle design and distribution business that his father, a Polish immigrant, started in 1909 with just a cart and a few used bottles he bought, cleaned and resold.
Born on Chicago’s West Side, Mr. Braun was the youngest of four siblings. His father died when he was 10 and by high school, Mr. Braun was working part time at the family business while attending classes.
In 1935, he married his wife, Rose, and the two lived in the Rogers Park, Uptown and Lakeview neighborhoods.
Mr. Braun is survived by a daughter, Naomi Rosenthal; three sons, Wolf, Peter and Jake; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Chicago Historical Society, 1601 N. Clark St.
