Those who gave their lives on Sept. 11 at the hands of terrorists are freedom fighters. The civil liberties we enjoy in America are under siege by those who use them to fight us. We should not be forced to give up our freedoms as they are the mark of the greatness of America.
But to keep them we must recognize that the free and open society we enjoy has risk. We must accept that this freedom may permit more acts of terrorism, causing the deaths of more freedom fighters. We should enact appropriate security precautions to minimize the risk, but if we give up our precious civil liberties, we will be giving in to forces that don’t want us to be free.
