William L. “Bill” Johnson, 65, of Elmhurst, a groundskeeper at Oakbrook Center for more than three decades, died Monday, Sept. 17, in Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Born in Chicago, Mr. Johnson was the longest running employee of the shopping center when he retired in 1995. “He was actually hired before the mall was opened,” said his daughter, Laura Johnson. Mr. Johnson also served in the Navy during the 1950s, was a bowler and enjoyed fishing. Other survivors include his former wife, Sharon; three other daughters, Nancy Shaneyfelt, Kristine Johnson and Donna Bierman; four grandchildren; a sister, Pat Simpson; and a brother, James. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst, and from 9:30 a.m. until services begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in Epiphany Lutheran Church, 314 W. Vallette St., Elmhurst.
