Rev. Archie Allen MacKinney was born April 25, 1905 in St. Paul, MN to Everson Ryder and Jennie, nee Amy, MacKinney, the second youngest of seven children. He died Sept. 17, 2001 at Friendship Village in Schaumburg, IL. He grew up in Appleton, WI, graduated from Eau Clair High School, Wheaton College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. At Wheaton he was captain of the football and basketball teams and a member of the baseball and track teams. He was president of his senior class. He was later inducted into the Wheaton College Sports Hall of Fame as a basketball player. He married Doris Hoops in 1928 and was the father of three children, Dr. Archie Jr. (Shirley), Rev. Carolyn Raffensperger and Rev. William (Karin). He pastored churches in Chester PA, Fall River, MA and North Syracuse, NY. His ministries were dynamic and innovative. Later he was director of the American Messianic Fellowship of Chicago and became an advocate of Israel and the Middle East. He loved music, performing with trumpet and voice. Singing around the piano was a frequent family event. He gave up athletics in his mature years for furniture refinishing and antique collecting. He and his wife retired to Schaumburg Village in 1986 where he was active until incapacitated at the age 90. He is survived by one sister, Alice Oury; his wife, Doris; his three children; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His spiritual children greatly outnumbered his genetic offspring. Visitation will be at the Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens-West. A memorial service will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 1000 S. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
