Diana B. Massengill, 64, lifelong resident and business owner in the Edgebrook area, died on Tuesday, Sept. 18 of cardiac arrest in her Chicago residence. Until her retirement in March 2000, she served northern Chicago area residents as the owner and operator of Eden’s Car Wash, the Burgess Office Building, and Eden’s Motel, all located near the intersection of Caldwell and Cicero Avenues. The businesses were built by her parents, Elaine J. and Vance O. Burgess, on land that was once the farm where Mrs. Burgess was born in 1895. Mrs. Massengill was an active member of the Edgebrook community and supported many local charities. She was a member of the Edgebrook Evangelical Covenant Church and a member of the Alumni Board of Monmouth College, Class of 1958. Her husband, John P. Massengill, to whom she was married for 27 years, died in 1989. She is survived by two children, Cynthia (Arthur) Zemke and John P. (Christine) Massengill III; a sister, Elaine B. (William) Hughes; five grandchildren; five nieces; and two nephews. Mrs. Massengill will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness and compassion. Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 21 at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, from 3 to 9 p.m. Services are Saturday, Sept. 22 at Edgebrook Evangelical Church, 6355 N. Spokane Ave., at 10 a.m., with Pastor Greg Mesimore officiating. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines.
