A fire at a home in North Barrington did about $275,000 in damage Thursday afternoon, but no one was injured, authorities said.
A neighbor noticed the fire in the one-story home in the 500 block of Signal Hill Road around 1:30 p.m. and called for help, Lake Zurich Fire Department Capt. Bob Bachler said. The owners were not home when the fire broke out, Bachler said.
Twenty-one fire departments responded. Firefighters were able to rescue three cats, but two dogs died, Bachler said.
Authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, but Bachler said it was not considered suspicious.
