Planning and Zoning commissioners want to allow parking of recreational vehicles in front-yard driveways and village trustees do not.
The commission Wednesday recommended amending the zoning ordinance to allow parking.
“By allowing people to park their RVs in their driveways, we felt it was a more reasonable way to regulate current RV owners,” commission Chairman Ron Hermann said.
Trustees expressed concern that children, hidden by such vehicles, could dart into traffic. Commissioners said any large vehicles could pose the same danger.
The proposal would allow RVs in driveways as long as they are at least 3 feet from a sidewalk.
According to officials, the current ordinance prohibiting RV parking is only enforced when a complaint is lodged. On Aug. 20 all six trustees said RVs should be parked in a side or rear yard and not in front of a home.
The Village Board is likely to discuss the issue in November.
The committee also urged approval of a plan to develop 19 lots along Randall Road.
Dan Olsem, a representative of Thornwood developer Crown Community Development Group, said the revised plan calls for nine buildings on 17.6 acres on the northwest corner of Randall and Thornwood Avenue.
The lots would range from 60,000 to 89,000 square feet. They could be use for restaurants and a gas station along Randall.
The Village Board is expected to discuss the project in October.
