I spent more than four hours on Tuesday at Union Station in Chicago visiting a friend who was on a layover between trains, traveling on Amtrak to Los Angeles. Not once in all that time did I see a police officer, security guard or any type of security official. Nor did I see any type of baggage check.

In light of recent tragedies in New York and Washington, I believe train travelers would take comfort in some type of security checks.
