Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Quoting a young Bears staff member, Melissa Isaacson writes, “If a bus had pulled up outside to bring people to war, I’d be on that bus in a second, and a lot of those [players] would be, too” (Tribune, Sept. 16).

She further quotes Phillip Daniels as saying, “I’m pretty sure a lot of our guys would jump on [the bus] and say, `Let’s go.'”

If a bus pulled up outside the Bears’ locker room, the first thing those guys would think was “the Turk” had come for their playbook.

Let me suggest one thing. If they are eager to serve our country, a bus isn’t going to pick them up and take them to enlist. I know they are conditioned to have everything done for them, but not this time.

If they are so stirred by patriotism, they can get off their butts and raise their right hands. They probably would end up playing football in the service, but what stories they would have to tell the chicks.
