Mary E. Irons, 79, passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 7, 2001 after a nine month illness. Born in Crookston, MN Mary was a lover of life in all its facets. She obtained a Master’s degree from the Unv. of Chicago school of Social Work in 1946 and held many positions in this field. She enthusiastically devoted service to many non-profit organizations, most notably Chicago Child Care Society, The Women’s Board of Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, The Oriental Institute of the Univ. of Chicago and the Hyde Park Historical Society. Later in her life, she turned to teaching as a career and retired from service to Kennedy King College in 1996. She was a 55 year active member of the United Church of Hyde Park. Mother of Ernest Irons, Ellen Irons, Carol karsnia and Katherine Floyd. Preceded in death by her husband Dr. Edwin Irons. Memorial service will be held at Bond Chapel on Friday, October 12 at 3 p.m. Located at 1050 E. 59th St., Chicago, IL on the Univ. of Chicago campus.
