I’m all for our government giving financial aid to the airline industry. The transportation it provides is vital to our nation. The money it generates is important also. The only string that should be attached to this bailout is that when we hand over this taxpayer-supported gift, the airlines agree to chop their executives’ pay down to a reasonable level. It would be offensive to me to see corporate executives lay off thousands of workers, take billions of dollars in corporate welfare from the government and then cash in their multimillion-dollar paychecks.
